Sarah-Helen Land is a lyric soprano with a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the Juilliard School, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Furman University, which is ranked among the top 10 music schools in the nation.
Equally proficient in Broadway and classical repertoire, she began her singing career as a mezzo-soprano. During that time, she performed roles such as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana (Hawaii Opera Theatre), Le Furie in La Calisto (San Francisco Opera Center), Siebel in Faust (Nevada Opera), Mercedes in Carmen (West Bay Opera), Amahl’s Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors , 2nd Lady in Die Zauberflote and Nettie Fowler in Carousel (Furman Opera Theater). Audiences are particularly drawn to Sarah-Helen for the electric effect her soulful acting has on her already powerful voice. This was showcased in full during her most recent role, that Judy Shepard, in the World Premiere opera-musical hybrid, Not in My Town, about the life and death of Matthew Shepard, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
